GDPR – LIBE Commission Final Step

On 12 April 2016 the LIBE Committee (European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs) voted to adopt the final agreement on the new Legal Framewok on Data Protection (both Directive and Regulation aka GDPR).

The new Directive has been approved with a majority of 45 approvals, 4 against and 1 abstention.

The new Regulation (GDPR) has been approved with a majority of 50 approvals, 3 against and 1 abstention.

Culture of law enforcement in all countries will include protection of fundamental rights of persons as a part of the everyday work. I suppose that is very important, we want to achieve that“. (Marju Lauristin, Rapporteur for Directive)

This is a huge chance now and the effort is on the implementation and effective application of this new legal framework as soon as possiblem in our memebre States“. (Jan Philipp Albrecht, Rapporteur for GDPR)

The entire framework (both Directive and GDPR) will be put to the (final) vote by the European Parliament on 14 April 2016.
